In Ancient Rome amulets were adorned to children born as free citizens - boys wore an amulet called Bulla and girls wore a crescent moon shaped pendant called a Lunula. I combined these two concepts to create a contemporary, gender-neutral piece. I paid homage to my ancestors by keeping true to the designs, materials and finishing techniques of the ancient Romans. The amulet has an opening under the bail where the wearer can place protective items, such as sage or other memorabilia.
The design includes an oval cut emerald set in a 14k bezel setting. The amulet also features gold ball accents - an ancient technique called granulation.
